Fireside Poetry with Alice Ruf

Tuesday, Sept. 8 | 7-9 p.m.
Poets will gather around the campfire in the backyard of Author Apothecary & Bookstore. There will be chairs and two cement benches for seating.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Fire has long been a place where people have gathered to tell stories, share wisdom, and keep one another company through the darkness. In this space, we honor that tradition by offering our poems to the circle. Each participant is invited to share one or two poems, depending on the size of the group.
After each reading, the poet may choose what they need from the circle: quiet witnessing, general reflections, or thoughtful constructive feedback. There is no expectation to critique unless it is welcomed.
Like tending a campfire, our role is to care for our words. Sometimes that means simply holding space. Sometimes it means offering another log—an encouraging thought, a fresh perspective, or gentle insight—to help the poem continue to grow. Together, we practice listening with respect, speaking with kindness, and honoring the courage it takes to place our words into the light.

Alice is a poet, artist, and community builder who believes stories have the power to help us understand ourselves and one another. Through gatherings centered on poetry, film, and shared human experience, she hopes to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and welcomed exactly as they are. Her work is rooted in curiosity, compassion, and the belief that creativity is something we tend together—like a fire that grows brighter when shared.
